But When You Have to Do a Marketing Strategy For Yourself…

March 5, 2012 By Finn 2 Comments

It’s 11pm. I’m on 2 hours of sleep as we were taking a wrecking ball to Project 02, and I’ve written 8,0000 words today already. But I told myself I have to keep blogging because as Douglas Karr would say, “Once you start you can’t stop.”

And It’s Part of My Job

Luckily, the Marketing Strategy for Project 03 is on the brain. It has to be done by 11pm CST this Wednesday because 4-5 other people are waiting on it. Somewhere over the weekend I stopped being overwhelmed by the pressure and began to embrace it. It’s invigorated me. No other way to write 8,000 words. And I have to factor in a lunch, a two-hour meeting and the Valpo-Detroit Horizon League Championship.

Good to see the VHS classmate Drew on the precipice of taking the Crusaders back to the promised land. And I’ll tell you what: they didn’t look that good in 1998 when Bryce hit The Shot.

As my buddy Theisen down in Indy said on Facebook the other night: They Look liked Butler used to.

Back on Point: The Marketing Strategy for Project 03

The theme of Project 03 is, “Custom the first time. Template after that.” So I’m trying to write a custom marketing strategy that will be templated for further use. So while I’m at it I’m brainstorming the ideas I need to include.

It’s easy to make strategies for others, but when you have to do a marketing strategy for yourself…

So Far I have:

Internet Marketing:  Initial Analysis

  • SEO
  • Traffic
  • Onsite SEO
  • Offsite SEO
  • Local SEO
  • Light Keyword Research
  • To be expanded with competitor and PPC research
  • Industry Terms
  • Geo-Targeted Terms
  • Hybrid of Industry & Geo-Targeted Terms
  • Competitor Analysis

Internet Marketing:  Inbound

  • Landing Page Analysis
  • A/B Split Testing
  • CTA
  • Themes
  • Blogging
  • Social Media
  • Email

Internet Marketing:  Outbound

  • PPC – Facebook, Google, AdCenter, Twitter, Niche Magazines
  • Media Buys – Niche Magazines
  • Contextual Buys
  • Pay Per Posts

PR – Public Relations

  • Press Releases – for Print
  • Prress Releases – online / SEO
  • free distribution
  • paid distribution

Things of Note

  1. I should put in a place for web design. I guess I’ll have to figure out where. Project 03 has designers.
  2. Print:  Business Cards, Pitch Packets, resumes in PDFs…that’s where I’m week.
  3. Extended to email signatures…

What Do Y’all Think? What Would You Add?

But I need to not think about it for awhile. What to do now?

I’d include something about processes and integrating with sales. You can write all the great marketing strategies you want and bring people in but where do they go from there? Not sure the scope of what you are up to exactly but a CRM or integration might be on your radar. Thanks for the nod about Valpo, first time I watched them all year but they out Butlered Butler. Passion, energetic D, threes from all over and a big guy that plays alot like Howard. Butler isnt great by any means but they are an ok team that was made to look silly.

      Hey, buddy.

Yeah, they’re gonna be scary assuming they get through tonight.

And I’ll take your thoughts. You bring up good points. I do need to make sure that fine line between marketing and that S word is addressed.
