Is Your Blog Prepped for Cyber Monday?

November 29, 2009 By Finn 2 Comments

Right now I’m watching the Colts work a comeback against the Texans. Then I’m going to go to the gym and finally get my body back in shape and my energy up.

Last year at this time I was prepping blog posts for release on Cyber Monday. How many posts? 7, if memory serves, all posted by 10am CST. And we probably should have done more. My apologies, boss 🙂

7 blog posts in one day? If your company is business-to-consumer, this shouldn’t be surprising.

Cyber Monday (tomorrow) is the day of the year where most holiday shoppers go online to find the deals either they couldn’t find or didn’t have time to get to on Black Friday.

If you haven’t prepped for Black Friday, there’s still time. Mute the TV and start focusing on the following:

  1. Make sure your blog is up to date.
  2. Make sure your syndication is set. Get that content out there
  3. Make sure your know which items your company wants to focus on
  4. Schedule your posts for publishing as soon as 4:30am EST – left coast, that’s 1:30am. People are getting up early to look for deals before work.

Now as for products to publish. Here’s an “old” favorite…

Start with a Top Ten Cyber Monday Deals list. Make the start with the “sexy” product, pack the best-seller in the 3 spot. Then pick some items related to the sexy product and the best seller on the back end of the list. Sexy-related, best-seller related, sexy-related…

Then you can use the post as an outline for the rest of the posts to come during the day.

And remember, as you publish the other posts, go back to the first post and link the following posts to the first post. So if you write about the third product on your list, link that third product post to it’s placement.

And like Douglas Adams once wrote: “Don’t Panic.” You have today, and if you’ve got the resources, you can crank out posts throughout the day. Just make sure you have a content schedule sketched so your co-workers know what’s going on. And don’t be afraid to go “off schedule” if news or inventory dictates. Just remember to keep promoting, keep shelling out posts, and keep shelling out value.
